Curriculum Lesson Sample

Summer Lesson 7

A. Needed: Kit + bag of animals and clothesline with clothing; colored paper divided into two markered sections (one section with outlines of animals and one section with outlines of children); animal fur cut into animal shapes; various flesh-colored markers; and articles of learned clothing.

B. Warmup Concept: Repeat Animals, Animals' Habitats + Fur, Skin, Clothing. Introduce animal piel (skin), our skin (piel; except "cutis" for cara/face); our skin and clothing.

C. Art Activity with Colors: Review animals and clothing. Introduce animals + piel (fur). Ask, "¿Qué lleva el oso/perro/gato?” (What does the bear, dog, cat wear?) When children say "Fur", respond with, "Sí, sí. Es fur en inglés. Pero, en español es piel. (Yes, yes. It’s fur in English; but, in Spanish it’s piel.) ¡Es piel for our skin, too, except for our face which is “cutis”! Pero, llevamos ropa, también. (But, we wear clothes, too.) ¿Qué llevo yo? (What am I wearing?) ¿Qué llevas tú?” (What are you wearing?) ¿Qué lleva ella/él? (What is she/he wearing?) Repeat using animals' covering vs. our covering. Demonstrate with "practice sample" to put piel on the animals and piel on the child. Have children "clothe" animal and children outlines.

D. Counting: (1-10) Count animals, articles of clothing from art activity, eyes, hands, feet, children, parents, teacher.

E. Commands: All + ¡Sean leónes! (Be lions!) ¡Sean elefantes! (Be elephants!) ¡Sean caballos! (Be horses!) ¡Sean tiburones! (Be sharks!) Etc.

F. Snack: Same as Lesson 1 except add galletas (crackers), queso (cheese), olivas (olives), agua (water), all previous animals: hormigas (ants), arañas (spiders), abejas (bees), gusanos (worms) y serpiente (snake).

G. "¡Adiós!": Review Lesson 1 + Homework: Choose a summer activity from basket and bring a bag with the items listed for that summer activity (sport) to the next session.
